7 Spiritual Laws of Success in Action
So I’ve written about basic meditation techniques – sitting comfortably in silent observation, maybe including a mantra or following a guided program. In addition to taking a few moments daily to quiet the mind, I’d like to introduce the concept of the 7 Spiritual Laws of Success.
These are guiding principles that are aligned with a specific day of the week. Remember the day of the week underwear? On Tuesday, you’d wake up, find the pair clearly marked “Tuesday” and put them on. Voila – so easy! Only sometimes it didn’t include Sunday and then what were you supposed to do?!? Well, this is a similar concept in that you wake up, remind yourself what day it is and then correlate it to the corresponding law of the day…and there’s even one for Sunday – phew!
Breaking these concepts down by day creates an easy way to learn new techniques that will ultimately provide insight about ourselves, help us achieve our desires and take action on our higher purpose. When we think about these concepts in broad terms, they may seem overwhelming and unmanageable – like thinking about how to get one small seed to grow into a tree. It needs enough sun, time, water to grow and develop healthy leaves and branches – what a process. And yet, thousands of trees are growing all the time with minimal guidance and effort. So, too, we can continue to develop and evolve easily when we allow the process to unfold. The Spiritual Laws of Success offer us a way of putting 7 daily spiritual principles into action by simply focusing on one each day.
“A seed doesn’t struggle to become a tree―it simply unfolds in grace.” – Deepak Chopra
MONDAY: The Law of Giving and Receiving
What a great way to start the week! Quite simply, I ask myself the question, “what can I do for someone else today?” It can be as simple as offering a smile, helping out with directions, listening to someone who needs a friend. And Monday is also an opportunity to graciously receive. For some of us, we give all the time and when a simple compliment or thank you comes our way, we find a way to downplay. Today is the day to acknowledge praise and congratulate yourself – you are exactly where you are supposed to be, even when it doesn’t always feel that way.
TUESDAY: The Law of Karma
Karma is all about cause and effect and this word can take on many connotations. While there is an underlying concept of “what goes around comes around”, the focus of this day is really about being attentive – to yourself, your movements, your actions. It is a great day to really get in touch with your own body signals – where are your shoulders throughout the day? Are you tense, hunched over, is your chest closed off? Are you relaxed with a comfortable, upright posture? Consider how your moods and body interact with each other throughout the day and what can you learn from paying attention more to the messages being sent through the body via sensations, pain and your innate intuition.
WEDNESDAY: The Law of Least Effort
One of my favorite days and just saying it can make you smile – really enunciate “least” effort. Notice how your mouth gets wider and naturally curves up? Ahh, wake up, take a deep breath and let your shoulders relax and smile. I like to repeat it a few times and pay attention to my facial muscles. No matter what is going on today, it doesn’t need to take any significant effort. Let it be – be myself, let others be themselves. Observe without judgment. Appreciate. Accept. Enjoy.
THURSDAY: The Law of Intention and Desire
Ooh – yippee! We just wrapped up a blissful day of enjoying and accepting and now we get to contemplate what we want. Sure, this could easily be “I want $1 million dollars”, but we are not replaying Austin Powers. If financial comfort is what you want, dig a little deeper. What is the true desire? Money is just energy. What would change if you had more financially? Could you spend more time with your family, minimize stress, spend more time doing the things you love? Write all of those things down! Those are the important to focus on and let go of the mechanics of how they could materialize and unfold. This is another great day to then appreciate, accept and enjoy exactly where you’re at right at the moment.
FRIDAY: The Law of Detachment
Even though Wednesday was a breath of fresh air to focus on least effort, Friday is equally calming when we agree to focus on detachment. This can be tricky because the idea is not to give up or choose not to care. As Buddha once said, “If anything is worth doing, do it with all your heart”. And that is exactly true. Friday is all about letting go of the specific outcome – considering instead the field of all possibilities and allowing the experience to unfold just as it will. You can cultivate an attitude of curiosity and wonder – letting go of all preconceived expectations. How liberating! Try it for a day and then the following week and so on…
SATURDAY: The Law of Dharma
Today is all about what is your higher purpose. Many of us are on a quest to understand this part of ourselves better and are looking to find what this all means. Today is a great day to allow yourself the freedom to ask questions about how you are best suited to serve humanity – and yet, it is not necessary to strive for an answer. Allow the day to unfold and take notice when you are using your unique talents. What are the moments when you are feeling bliss and abundance and how could you translate this to serve others?
SUNDAY: The Law of Pure Potentiality
Wow – pure potentiality. This one is so incredible – it is about the possibility of creating anything and everything. Sunday is my time to connect with nature – to look up at the magnificent giant trees and think about how they miraculously started with just a small seed. To think about the ripple effect that occurs when a butterfly flaps its wings or how so many objects in nature share commonalities. The Fibonacci Sequence and Golden Ratio shows consistent mathematical patterns in flower petals, seashells and even components of our facial structure. Awe…today is a day to soak in all the breath-taking majesty around us.
This is an overview of the 7 Spiritual Laws of Success. Next week I will continue this topic and provide the specific mantra associated with each law and day of the week. Meanwhile, let me know how these daily principles are going for you. Feel free to comment in the notes below and share your personal experience.
